Well, we took the kids to the Michigan State Fair while they were here over the holiday. It might be the last State Fair! This year, the kids seemed to enjoy it, and we went with my mom & dad and our friend Tom. We finally got the pictures and stuff loaded to the server, so I thought I’d post them.

Mounted Horses Parade at the State Fair

This is one of the first sights we saw upon entering the State Fair this year.  The kids couldn’t believe that people were riding the horses.

Next came the Budweiser wagon, pulled by the Clydesdales.  They were absolutely magnificent!  The boys remembered seeing them at the exhibit when we were at Sea World last year.

Petting Sheep at the Fair

It looks like Drake has gotten over his fear of farm animals.  Last year he wouldn’t go near anything!  This year, we caught him and Grandma Lueck petting the sheep!  Hopefully this is the start of conquering that fear…

Grandpa decided that it was time for a treat… so the boys picked out a snowcone.  Now, look at that snowcone!  It’s a monstrosity.  I seem to remember getting them in little paper cup cones… and they were much smaller… but they had fun eating it up!

Scoping out the Cows

Here is a picture of Nash, Grandpa Lueck, Drake, and Grandma Lueck.  We were all sitting on a set of bleachers watching the cows and their calves at the Fair.  The kids sat there for quite a while watching them!

These pictures were all from the Urban Garden section of the Fair.  They were showing how fruits and vegetables could be grown in an urban area without too much free space.  They, of course, had a large area to grow a variety of plants…  The sunflowers were the most eye-catching and impressive, but they also had watermelons, cantalopes, green beans, cucumbers, eggplants, wax beans, strawberries, and a huge herb garden.  Drake was amazed at the watermelons growing, which is why that picture was taken.

Chicken!

Chicken!

Featherless Necked Chickens??

Featherless Necked Chickens??

We saw a bunch of really great looking turkeys, chickens and roosters at the Fair as well.  Some of the specimens were more unusual than others…. like the chicken that looks like it has a poofy hairdo… or the chicken with no feathers on its skinny little neck!  I’ve never seen such a variety of poultry before.

Watching the Geese

Watching the Geese

This was our last stop before getting the kids (and ourselves) dinner at the Fair.  They watched the geese for what seemed like forever!  Bill and Tom are in the picture, and the kids are looking through the fence slats at the geese.  All in all, it was a good day, and we had fantastic weather for the State Fair.  I hope a corporate sponsor steps up so that this tradition can continue.
