Passing the Time Away… March 29, 2010

Posted by Danielle in Crafts, Family Stuff.

Covering a few things in this post. We had the kids last week, and since the weather was so nasty, we took them to the Detroit Science Center.  We’d taken them there before, but they were completely disinterested.  This time around, I think they had more fun, although they still didn’t “get” most of the experiments and exhibits.  Oh well!  And the lighting wasn’t very good, so  a lot of the pictures didn’t turn out very well.  Here are a few of them though.

Drake sitting with the Couch Potatoes

This was part of the exhibit on nutrition and exercise.  It had two Couch Potatoes who made random comments.  Drake was a little bit leery of them at first, but then he wanted to sit with them.  The rest of the exhibit compared different kinds of foods, the different nutritional values and caloric counts.  It also had some exercise equipment set up so you could see how much energy you could produce and how many calories you could burn by riding a bike, lifting a weighted bar, etc.

Apollo Emergency Egress Trainer

Here are Bill and the kids looking into the Apollo Emergency Egress Trainer.  It was a tight fit for two adults!

Spring Coasters

These coasters are similar to the ones I made for my mom’s birthday.  I did them the same way, using the tumbled tiles, StazOn ink, a stamp, chalks, and acrylic sealant.  The difference is that they are for Debbie’s birthday, which was March 10.  She really liked them, and I’m so glad because they were a lot of fun to make, and another easy crafting project.  She has them displayed on the side table at her apartment.

F from Emma's Alphabet book

I completed another alphabet book.  This time, it was for Emma, Jack’s little sister.  I got the images from the same website that I got the images for Jack’s book.  Here are a couple more pages:

My parents took the little alphabet books and a box of dinosaur fruit snacks over to Grand Rapids this past weekend.  I wasn’t able to go with them, but I wanted to make sure the kids got them before Easter.  Yes, the dinosaurs have a significance for Jack.  His preschool did a dinosaur unit this month, and he’s now totally in love with dinosaurs.  And he’s a little sponge!  He is learning all sorts of dino facts.  What an unbelievable kid…. and Emma is talking up a storm now, too.  I can’t believe that she’ll be 2 in May!  Mom said that Emma went through that alphabet book with her three or four times over the weekend.  So I’m glad that she liked it.  I had a lot of fun making them for the kids.
