Mixed Media Book Pages August 19, 2016

Today, I’m branching out again into the world of mixed media.  I was inspired to give this a try after watching Shemi Dixon’s YouTube videos.

For these pages, the idea came from this video.  She used inexpensive watercolors from Michaels.  The ones she used seemed to have quite a bit more filler, and her colors came out much more chalky.  I was using my set of 16 Prang watercolors.  They are not artist-grade by any stretch of the imagination, but they produce nice, bright, translucent colors.  Even with the darkest colors, you can still see the text beneath the paint.  I used a combination of paint and metallic markers to do the designs on the stripes of paint colors.

These are some flowers.  I had a lot of fun creating them. Again, they were inspired by another one of Shemi’s videos.  I did mine a little differently, and the petals aren’t as curled.  Again, I used book pages to make these.  I cut out some wonky circles and then I drew on them with oil pastels – the kind that are not water-soluble. For the most part, they did a good job resisting the watercolor that I layered on top of them.  Shemi used brass brads, but I did not have any of those, so I used some yellow gingham covered brads that I have had for ages as the centers.  I’m not sure what I will be using these for, but I had fun making them for sure!  Hope you enjoyed my projects today.
