Hopefully, everyone is having a wonderful day!  I’m sharing something a little different today – paper tassels made using some of the beautiful papers that Patricia carries at PaperTemptress.com.

These tassels sure are fun to make!  To start, I used some 24 gauge wire and made a loop at one end.  These three tassels are made using Haviland Blue Classic Linen, Neenah Solar White 80#, and Mango Orange 80# cardstock.  To create the tassels, I started with a homemade quilling tool to get the paper started.  Then, I removed the tool and replaced it with the wire, loop toward the bottom, and I glued it to the paper.  The paper is rolled around the wire, with some glue added as the paper was rolled to secure it and keep the roll tight.  I added a dollop of hot glue to the top of the tassel to help secure it.  Then, I added some bead caps and beads to the top, creating another loop at the top when I was finished.  This way, the tassel can be attached to whatever you decide to create.  To decorate the top of the tassel, I also used some Washi tape.

Happy New Year!  I hope that everyone has had a wonderful start to 2016.  Here is a bright, cheery birthday card I created for a friend of mine whose favorite animals are peacocks.

For this card, I started with a base of Neenah Solar White cardstock.  I used an ATC sized stamp from Art Neko from this sheet that I got as a birthday gift from my parents.  I love the images on these stamps and the fact that they are deeply etched red rubber.  I stamped the image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then colored the image using the following Spectrum Noir markers: BT1, BT2, CT4, EB6, EB8, GB3, LG1, LG3, and LG5.  I then colored in the background using a Tombow marker (452) and a paintbrush to fill in the background color with water before going over the entire image with clear and black Wink of Stella pens.  The sentiment is from a Sizzix set called Birthday and Frames, and it is stamped using Memento Nautical Blue.  I embossed some beautiful Treasures 80# Pool cardstock with an Anna Griffin embossing folder that I felt set off the feathers.

Here is a quick card for those last-minute needs.

For this card, I started out with Red Pepper Linen cardstock.  On top of that,I layered some  Treasures Grass cardstock, which is embossed using the Sizzix Four Petal Flower embossing folder.  Layered on top of the green cardstock are four pieces of the 5 Part Pine set of Elizabeth Craft Designs dies.  They are cut using cardstock from my stash in a similar texture as the Linen cardstock.  I think it is by DCWV.  I attached them using acid free foam dimensional tape.

For today’s project, I am using a new-to-me technique of melting crayons.  I started with an adorable digital image that has lots of open spaces by From the Heart‘s progressive challenge.  I used a candle warmer to melt the crayons, and I used a normal box of regular crayons to color.  I tried this on Cryogen to see if the subtle shimmer would come through the crayon but it does not.  The background is a watercolor wash, and the shimmer does sparkle through that though and the crayon resists the watercoloring!

The image is mounted on Red Pepper Linen cardstock, one of my favorite reds, and the background is from one of my new favorite paper lines – Treasures Grass.  It adds another layer of subtle texture and a bright pop of color to any project.  The ribbon and snowflake embellishments are from my stash.
